Re: This teacher HAD a gun!!!

Owning a fully automatic gun is all ready illegal.

Are you saying insured and registered guns don't kill? Just more burden on law abiding gun owners.

"Lastly, stringent and full background checks before ownership. " This just puts more expense and burden on law abiding gun owners. Crazies and crooks will just steal the guns they use in crimes.

There is no evidence that your proposals will prevent any shootings. Liberals are fond of saying "that if it saves just one life, it is worth it." But you dismiss any possibility of mental health evaluations and removal of the potential perp. from the environment where he can obtain any weapon, gun, knife, baseball bat, matches, fertilizer, pressure cookers and all other items he can kill with.

Owning an automatic weapon is NOT illegal.

It has never been illegal.

No, I am not saying that at all. You really need to educate yourself about guns and gun matters. Guns are made to kill things, it is a FEATURE not a bug.

But, if a gun that is registered and insured does kill someone, insurance pays the damaged and because of registry, we know who is responsible. The cost of insurance and the recognition of the risk associated with it alone will take guns out of the hands of irresponsible owners in a great many cases.

Further, what you saw with the prevalence of the machine gun to when it was finally regulated - I think you can see what requiring semi auto's to be handled in the same way would do.

I can have a gun laying on my desk right here. Be it a single shot, semi-automatic of fully automatic. Be it .17, .22, .223, [sign in to see URL], .308 or .300 Magnum Caliber. makes no difference, not a chance of any of them killing any one except an intruder into my home or that I go crazy. In the event that I go crazy, I would hope that someone recognizes that and gets me help before I kill someone. Until then, the guns can remain untouched for decades and be perfectly safe.

In my opinion, if current gun laws were strictly enforced no new gun laws will be needed. The new proposed gun laws will not do any better at providing safety to anyone. One sure way to protect lives at school or work is to remove the crazy from the equation before he acts.

Rocket, I deem you to be "crazy." Guns have only one purpose -- to kill.

Hand me your guns, lunatic!

Polly, Yes, I am going crazy and filled with hate. Come and take my guns, after due process of course. That's ok cause I can steel my neighbor's gun or use a knife, or baseball bat or almost anything I can use as a weapon.

The best thing to do is take me away from all potential weapons until my head is screwed on straight again if ever.

Your neighbor's gun is already "steeled."

How should I know if your head is "screwed on tight?" Does your local gun shop owner know how your head is situated? How would (s)he know unless someone breaches doctor/patient confidentiality?

See the bind you are in?

Polly, I'm not in a bind at all. There is no current system to remove crazies from potentially dangerous situations. Just look at all the failures of the current system that allowed a crazy to buy a gun and posting on line about becoming a professional school shooter. Being kicked out of school and not being allowed to carry a back pack when he was enrolled. Being visited by the local enforcement over 30 times before his rampage and being reported to the FBI at least 2 times with credible info about the perp.

There were plenty of chances that could have triggered his removal from society for professional mental evaluation to determine his risk of becoming violent. If such a plan was in place 17 students would not have been gunned down.

California, Oregon and Washington state have somewhat similar laws on the books. They are called "RED FLAG" laws. These Red Flag Laws are limited to removing the guns from the potential perp's. home, while allowing him to get more weapons of any kind illegally of course. If they removed the potential perp. problem solved.

In such a system there would naturally have to be checks and balances and possibly some liability if the officials involved failed to follow the letter of the law perfectly. Also some liability if a citizen made false claims against an acquaintance.

I believe a system such as this has the potential to save more lives than a 100 new gun laws. As you already know the City of Chicago has the most strict gun laws in the nation and yet has the most gun deaths of almost any where.

Wow! Who knew that knives were such efficient, effective killing weapons. Is the U.S. military aware of this?

I'm sure once they read about that "mass-killing" by knife no less, that they'll be trading in all of those millions upon millions of assault rifles for knives. emoticon
