This teacher HAD a gun!!!

Teacher accused of firing shot once told cops he had woman killed

New York Daily News

DAVID BOROFF

Mar 1st 2018 12:08PM

The Georgia teacher who cops say barricaded himself in a classroom and fired a handgun through a window had once said that he had a woman killed, but it was believed he was "delusional."

Social studies teacher Jesse Randal Davidson sent students at Dalton High School into a panic and forced a lockdown and evacuation on Wednesday after firing the shot.

"Mr. Davidson did not give us much information about what his motives were or what may or may not have been the problem today," police spokesperson Bruce Frazier said.

Principal Steve Bartoo said Davidson was an "excellent teacher" and added that "as far as I know he was fit to be at work."

However, cops say they encountered the teacher behaving oddly on two separate occasions in recent years
.

Davidson had called cops in 2016 and said he that he had a woman killed, according to WDEF. However, cops did not find any evidence of foul play and believed this was not the case.

"Mr. Davidson did state that he was on several different medications for depression and had only just gotten out of the hospital today," cops said, according to the station.

He was also reported missing a year ago, according to WDEF. He was found walking on Waugh Street in Dalton, but he could not tell police what had happened to him.

Davidson is facing six charges, including aggravated assault involving a gun and terroristic threats and acts. Other charges include carrying a weapon in a school safety zone and reckless conduct.

The gunshot traveled across the street and into a hilltop neighborhood overlooking part of the city, where the bullet could have struck someone, Frazier said.

Davidson was recognized as the school's top teacher in 2012, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Classes were cancelled at the high school on Thursday. The students, who number at approximately 2,000, were being allowed back in to get their possessions. Classes were expected to resume on Friday.

Wow, only 30-some more times and he will catch up to Mr. Cruz in Florida!

The person who released him from the hospital and or prescribed the medications should hold some form of liability.

Why?

Is there something out there showing they acted negligently by releasing him?

Most all the perps. have recently seen a mental health worker and many were on anti depression drugs of some sort. Mental health workers should know a bad apple when they see one.

Local law enforcement as well. The latest shooter had the cops at his house over 30 times. Then they failed to act when he went over the hill.

Teachers, while not mental health pros., through experience should be able to spot a troubled soul. This latest shooter, while a student at the school he shot up, could not bring a back pack to school. They knew he was trouble but no power to do any more.

The system failed to protect the perp. before he did his dirty deed and failed to protect the children, all the while the focus has been only on the gun.

Not necessarily. Psychopaths and sociopaths are particularly good at disguising their psychoses. The fact that the police get called to a house several times does not give them the right to institutionalize people. Teachers aren't, as a rule, qualified to diagnose mental illness. Monday morning quarterbacking is easy.

I believe more lives will be saved by investigating and developing programs for the mentally troubled than by all the new gun laws proposed.

I would be remiss if, as an individual with a degree in Psychology, I did not point out how incorrect you are but also clear up some misperceptions about diagnosing.

First and foremost, no one but a practicing, licensed Psychiatrist should EVER make a determination about the mental health of an individual. Period. No "what about if.." NO! No one. I realize we all play ameteur psychologists all the time, but making determinations out of hat can stick with someone for life and are NEVER correct. Plus it could hinder further diagnosis. Psychiatry is not an exact science by its very nature.

Second, to layfolk, it always seems "easy" in retrospect to throw around diagnoses of individuals and from that, glean future actions. It is simply not that easy. Here's why, like any other illness, mental illnesses have certain shared symptoms and characteristics and some that are the virtue of the person with the mental illness. Further, comorbidity rates are very high. What that means is that someone with a mental illness rarely suffers from just one, but a cocktail of multiple neuroses/psychoses that really make each individual mental illness unique.

Stigmatizing mental illness is probably the single STUPIDEST thing you can do. Millions of individuals have a diagnosis of some form of mental illness and a very miniscule fraction of a percentage ever harm anyone, including themselves.

To blame school shootings on mental illness is taking the easy way out.

The one constant in school shooting should be what is looked at and that is guns and ammo. I am not saying we need to be rid of semi-automatic weapons. We simply need to treat them like we do automatic weapons with regard to licensing, training, and INSURANCE - and yes, EVERY gun should require insurance.

Even that will not end things tomorrow, but it is a step in the right direction without infringement upon 2A rights.

Mind, Re: The most recent Florida school shooting.

First, the school determined the shooter was a problem. They denied him the right to carry a back pack to or in school before they kicked him out. At that time shouldn't he have been required to obtain a mental health screening of some sort. Perhaps he could have received proper help at that time to prevent his killings.

Second, The FBI had been warned at least 2 times that this nut case was posting on the internet, that he wanted to become a "Professional school shooter". The FBI did NOTHING. Perhaps he could have received proper help at that time to prevent his killings.
The citizen that reported him to the FBI was, not to my knowledge a trained mental health official nor was the school but they knew a crazy when they see one.

Lastly, The sheriff deputies stayed outside of the school hiding behind their cars all the while the killings were taking place.

There was failure at all levels that could have prevented this tragedy and you are telling me only more gun laws will prevent more killings.

Mind, You say "Stigmatizing mental illness is probably the single STUPIDEST thing you can do. Millions of individuals have a diagnosis of some form of mental illness and a very miniscule fraction of a percentage ever harm anyone, including themselves."

I say there are over 200 million law abiding gun owners in this country. Stigmatizing them for the actions of (your words) "a very miniscule fraction of a percentage" is just plain ignorant.

It is all ready illegal to have a gun on school grounds. Did that stop the shooter? NO.

It is all ready illegal to kill people. Did that stop the shooter? NO.

There are all ready dozens of gun control laws on the books. Does that stop any gun deaths? NO.

What makes you think more gun laws will stop any gun violence? They just make it more difficult for the more than 200 million law abiding gun owners.

I am not stigmatizing gun owners. Are you sure you understand the word "stigmatize"?

I am a gun owner.

And, as with all of the Bill of Rights, we have put limits on each and every one of them. I am not saying we outlaw ANY gun.

Sensibly, what needs to be done is to simply put the same conditions currently on automatic weapons onto owning a semi auto. The law abiding owners would simply have to comply with President Reagan's Firearm Owners Protection Act. Owning the guns are still legal.

As to things that can turn a single shot into a semi auto or a semi auto into and automatic, treat this the same as the weapons they attempt to modify the original firearm into.

Next, require every gun to be insured and in a federal registry.

Lastly, stringent and full background checks before ownership.

Now, how does this "stigmatize" a gun owner?

It wouldn't outlaw a single weapon but it would require much more of a responsibility on gun owners which does not violate the 2A in any way.
