SISL takes a tumble----

Stepping off porch, misses step, falls 5', breaks the hell out of left leg.

Four nights in the hospital, two plates on bones of lower left leg, plus lotsa screws.

Doc says 4-6 weeks b4 I can put any weight on it.

I have never had a broken bone before, but it's something I could have done without!

YUCK!

Damn dude, sorry to hear it.

I've watched them do the surgery for those, not a pleasant looking experience.

I figured something must have happened since you've been absent the board.
Truly sorry you had to experience that, Sisl.

That sucks.. you know as we get older the bones become more fragile.. and take a lot longer to heal!

Hope you are up and around soon!

    Thanks peeps!

This using a walker or wheelchair makes a trip to the bathroom a real adventure.

I'm sure it's rough, Sisl.
But you're tough and you'll be back in shape in short order. Hang in there.

Ouch!

Yep. Best time I ever had with a broken bone wasn't any fun at all, and it sounds like you gotta doozy.

Only advice I can pass along is listen to your doc, and do what he says. Several of my hard-headed friends didn't, and every one of them lived to regret it.

Feel better.

Sisl, Falling off the porch is pretty dull. You should have told us you broke it while kicking ass on a bear or wrestling killer whales on the deck of one of your barges. Now that would be a story.

How's it going bud?

Re: SISL takes a tumble----

I'm sitting by the fire and watching it snow.

My neighbors are being great, keeping my woodbox full and bringing plates of food.

The tugs and barges will have to make it without me this Winter.

     SPECIAL NOTE FOR WOODBURNERS ONLY:

     Recipe for fire starters.

These things work great, and they are free.

     Save up:

     1----Sawdust or planer chips.

     2----Plastic grocery bags

     3----Used oil from crankcases

Mix the chips and used oil into a combustible mix. I use a cement mixer.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING GASOLINE!!!!

Place 2-3 handfulls of the oily chips into a grocery bag, tie bag shut.

Save the prepared fire starters in a 55 gallon drum.

     To start a fire:

Throw a bag of oily chips into the stove, tear it open, and light it.

I've been doing this for years, it works great.

Even a cripple can do it!
